TUMANDOK, a film about the Ati ethnic group in the Visayas, takes home the Best Film award at the 20th Cinemalaya Philippine Independent Film Festival. In celebrating the film’s success, WVSU- University Student Council is interested in sharing the renowned film with the locals - bringing pride to fellow Ilonggos through Tumandok Film Screening, a special event served as a fundraising initiative, aimed at supporting community works in Panay Island which will kick off at FDCP Cinematheque Center, Iloilo CIty, on October 4-5, 2024.
Directed by Iloilo natives Richard Jeroui Salvadico and Arlie Sweet Sumagaysay, and produced by Arden Rod Condez , "Tumandok" showcases the rich culture and ongoing struggles of the Ati ethnic group in the Visayas. With an all-Ati cast speaking their native Inati language, the film powerfully depicts their relentless quest to reclaim their ancestral lands amidst rising threats.
Snatching the prestigious award as Best Film was never enough for "Tumandok" as it was also recognized as the NETPAC Jury Award, Best Screenplay, Best Supporting Actor, and Best Original Score at the 20th Cinemalaya Philippine Independent Film Festival, making the film a multiple award winning film.
